Ask the majority of expectant mothers and they'll tell you, one of the biggest challenges (among the many they'll experience) associated with pregnancy is extreme exhaustion.
Realistically, if you were carrying around twenty to thirty pounds of extra weight (sometimes more) during a nine month span on a daily basis; had to endure fluctuating hormones; and was expected to still carry on in your daily activities; you'd be exhausted too.
* Get Plenty Of Rest.
Sleep deprivation effects every single aspect of one's life. From the loss of memory and motor skills, to a sharp increase in emotional and physical illness, the right amount of sleep should never be taken for granted. Especially is this so concerning a pregnant mother and her unborn child. Therefore, the major key to coping with exhaustion boils down to getting ample rest (at least seven to eight hours a night).
* Take Frequent Breaks.
Unfortunately for some expected mothers, getting a good nights rest is not in their grasp. Whether it's due to discomfort; fluctuating hormones; medications; or pregnancy complications; it may be very hard to get the necessary rest. If this is the case, taking frequent breaks or 'rest periods' throughout the day, will enable the expectant mother to cope with exhaustion much better.
Dr. George F. Solomon of the University of California stated: "Mind and body are inseparable. The brain influences all sorts of physiological processes that were once thought not to be centrally regulated." In short, the majority of how one feels has to do with their mental factors.
Therefore, a fast paced -always on the go-not enough time in the day-lifestyle, can directly influence one's mental (and eventually) physical health. Thereby causing one to feel exhausted and run down. The cure? Learning when to say "no", and simply relaxing.
* Keep Hydrated.
"Dehydration is a commonly overlooked cause of fatigue." so stated 'Health' magazine. "Even the smallest deficit (lack of water) can leave you feeling tired ... or ill." Since the expectant mother has to provide nourishment for herself as well as baby, it's extremely vital that she drinks the recommended eight glasses of water - two quarts - every day.
* Low Impact Exercise.
Another great way of coping with exhaustion during pregnancy, involves low impact exercise. Medical studies have shown that physical activity not only helps control weight, it improves the mood, and contributes to an increase of energy. Even low impact exercises such as walking or stretching, makes a huge impact on how one feels (expectant mothers should always discuss an exercise regimen with their doctor).
For many expectant mothers, dealing with exhaustion is something they just cannot avoid. How vital then (for mother and baby), to develop a game plan enabling one to successfully cope with such a challenge.
